EDITOR’S POV at the CHANEL MDA 2026 SHOW in SEOUL: BIN
Inspired by the crowds of the New York subway, Matthieu Blazy’s Métiers d’Art collection became art once again inside Seoul’s Centre Pompidou Hanwha Seoul, where Picasso hangs on the walls. What once felt like fleeting sketches of strangers in motion transformed into images to be contemplated. And within the city’s anonymity, individuality became even more distinct.
Rather than simply showcasing extraordinary craftsmanship, the collection focused on how clothes are actually lived in. Intricate embroidery, fluid feathers, metallic details, and textured tweeds blended naturally into each character’s attitude and styling instead of overpowering them.
Here, styling became a way of visualizing individuality. Different silhouettes, materials, and attitudes collided to create not one idealized woman, but a collective of personalities moving through the city. Some looks felt intentionally undone, others resisted excessive elegance. Perhaps this is Blazy’s true vision of the collective.
And so, the show in Seoul felt paradoxical. A collection born from the realism of the subway entered the museum and became art, yet never felt static. Instead, it seemed destined to return to the streets, leaving behind movement, traces, and afterimages.
